2022 Skoda Slavia is Safer, Wider and Powerful

Skoda Auto has unveiled it’s new compact sedan Slavia. The new Skoda Slavia is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB-A0-IN platform. Skoda Slavia will be launched in a total of three variants namely Active, Ambition and the range-topping Style. The new Skoda Slavia will be launched in India by first quarter of 2022. Expected to be priced between Rs 11-16 lakh.

Longer than Skoda Rapid

Skoda Slavia sports an emotive design language with sharp lines, clear surfaces and crystalline structures builds on that of the Octavia and Superb. The Slavia is 4,541 mm long, 1,752 mm wide and 1,487 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,651 mm (longest in segment). It’s the widest car in the segment and offers a class leading boot capacity of 521 litre. The new Slavia is 128 mm longer, 53 mm wider and 21 mm taller than the Skoda Rapid. 

MQB-A0-IN platform

Skoda Slavia is the second production car based on the India-specific MQB-A0-IN platform – an MQB variant specially adapted by Skoda Auto for India that will also be used for other Volkswagen Group models on the Indian market. With 95 percent localisation, the MQB-A0-IN platform has been specifically adapted to meet the needs of the Indian market.

TSI petrol engine

The all-new Skoda Slavia will be available with two TSI petrol engines: a 1.0- or 1.5-litre TSI, both of which are coupled with front-wheel drive. The depending on the variants, the front-wheel drive Skoda Slavia will be available with a 6-speed manual gearbox, a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 7-speed DSG. The 1.0-litre TSI petrol produces 115 HP and 175 Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre, four-cylinder TSI engine churns out 150 HP and 250 Nm of torque. mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, same as with the 1.0 TSI. The 1.5 TSI petrol engine can also be configured with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.

Active cylinder technology

The 1.5 TSI is equipped with active cylinder technology (ACT). When engine load is low, this system automatically – and virtually without the driver noticing – shuts down two cylinders, further reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Multi-collision brake

Unlike every Skoda cars, the Slavia also comes with a host of class leading safety features like 6 airbags, Electronic Differential System (EDS), height adjustable headrest, rear centre seat with 3-point seat belt, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), ISOFIX, cruise control, Top Tether anchor points on the rear seats, auto wipers, rear parking camera and multi-collision brakes, which will prevent any potential follow-on collisions by automatically and safely bringing the car to a standstill. The brake system also comes with an automatic brake disc cleaning function. The sedan is also said to offer greater pedestrian protection in case of an accident and also tested for side pole and rear impacts.

Rain sensing headlamps

Optional extras of the new Skoda Slavia include light and rain sensors to automatically activate the low beam or windscreen wipers as required. Rear parking sensors are fitted as standard; the higher-trim variants come with a rear-view camera.

Infotainment system with GPS tuner

The Skoda Slavia comes with a choice of 2 free-standing touchscreen infotainment systems. The Active trim sports a 7-inch touchscreen. The top-level infotainment system in Ambition and Style has a 10-inch colour touchscreen with functionality similar to that found in smartphones. Wireless SmartLink technology allows smartphone mirroring and access to the app store without the use of a cable. This system also features a dual tuner, a Wi-Fi hotspot and an external microphone for hands-free phone calls. There are two USB-C ports in the centre console for connecting and charging mobile devices via cable.

Downloads from the Škoda Play Apps allow for the range of features to be expanded, for example, by a navigation function. The coordinates are provided by a GPS tuner that has been pre-installed in the vehicle. The Style variant can also be equipped with a Phone Box in the front which allows smartphones to be charged inductively. In addition to MP3 and WMA, this system can also play AAC and FLAC media files.

Ventilated seats

The Ambition trim level upwards, the Slavia boasts a touch-control Climatronic with Air Care function and air vents in the rear. The range-topping trim, Style, comes with features like ventilated leather front seats, Key keyless entry, an electric sliding glass roof and an auto-dimming rear‑view mirror. The side bolsters of the ventilated front seats, which come as standard, are finished in a leather look, as are the covers of the centre armrest and the armrests in the doors.

Two spoke steering wheel

The new Skoda Slavia comes with a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel as standard. From Ambition upwards, the multifunctional steering wheel is upholstered in leather, and variants with automatic transmission or DSG also feature shift paddles.

Digital instrument cluster

The range-topping trim level, Style, offers a digital instrument cluster with an 8-inch colour display; the other variants come with analogue gauges.

Five colours

The Skoda Slavia will be available in five colour options – Tornado Red, Crystal Blue, Candy White, Reflex Silver and Carbon Steel. The Slavia Active trim features 15-inch steel wheels with hubcaps. While, the higher-end trim levels, Ambition and Style, come with 16-inch alloy wheels as standard.

LED headlights

The entry-level variants come with halogen lamps for low beam and high beam, while the daytime running lights make use of LED technology. In the top-end specification, a hexagonal LED module produces the low beam and high beam, while the daytime running lights are provided by a striking, sharply defined L-shaped LED strip. There is also a choice of two variants for the rear lights which are split in two. Even the entry-level specification features LED tail lights and brake lights, forming the Škoda-typical C-shaped light cluster.

Ambient lighting

The entry-level variants of the Skoda Slavia features white ambient lighting and LED reading lights in the front and rear. From the Ambition trim level upwards, the ambient lighting also illuminates the dashboard and door handles, while the door handles are chrome-plated and the gearstick knob is upholstered in leather. The Style trim is particularly elegant. It offers an extended chrome package with decorative chrome trim on the instrument panel as well as the gearstick surround and the handbrake locking button also sports a chrome finish.

High performance speakers

The Skoda Slavia comes with six high-performance speakers as standard – two separate tweeters and bass speakers in the front and two two-way speakers in the rear. The Skoda sound system is part of the standard equipment in the Style variant. In addition to higher-performance speakers, it also offers a separate amplifier and a subwoofer that is located in the spare-wheel well.
