Mini has unveiled the 2022 Mini Cooper and Convertible. The hatchback has undergone a cosmetic makeover. The launch of the new Mini Cooper-3 door, Mini Cooper 5-door and Mini Convertible models in the international markets will begin in March 2021.
New hexagonal front grille
The 2022 Mini Cooper and Convertible features a new exterior design language. The front view of the Mini 3-door including the Mini Cooper SE, the Mini 5-door and the Mini Convertible is dominated by the new hexagonal radiator grille and by the round hallmark Mini headlights. The position lights are now replaced by functional-vertical air inlets placed far to the outside.
Re-designed interiors
The 2022 Mini 3-door, Mini 5-door and Mini Convertible features a completely new interiors. New to the range are 8.8-inch centre console display, instrument cluster with 5-inch display in black panel design, air vents, enlarged door panels, ambient lighting with 12 different colours, sports seats in the Light Chequered colour variant, and upholstery variants.
Globally unique Multitone roof
The new Multitone Roof of the new Mini Cooper 3-door and 5-door features a colour gradient from San Marino Blue through Pearly Aqua to Jet Black, created with a new painting technique and by extending from the windscreen frame to the rear. For this purpose, the three colour shades are applied one after the other in a wet-on-wet painting process. This paint finish, known as Spray Tech, is fully integrated into the mechanised production process at the MINI Oxford plant in the UK.
Three new body paint finishes
The 2022 Mini Cooper and Convertible gets a choice of three new body paint finishes. In addition to the Rooftop Grey metallic and Island Blue metallic exterior paint finishes, the Zesty Yellow variant, initially only available for the MINI Convertible, will also be available. As part of the Piano Black Exterior option, the door handles, side scuttles, fuel cap, Mini logos on the bonnet and luggage compartment lid and the model lettering and tailpipes of the exhaust system are now finished in high-gloss black in addition to the surrounds of the headlights, radiator grille and rear lights.
New 18-inch light-alloy wheels
The 2022 Mini Cooper and Convertible a new range of light-alloy wheels available for the Mini has also been extensively renewed. The five new light alloy wheels include: 17-inch wheels in Tentacle Spoke black design, in Scissor Spoke design which was previously only available for the Mini Sidewalk Convertible, and in a black version of the Pedal Spoke variant which had been previously introduced exclusively for the 60 Years Edition models. In addition there are the 18-inch light-alloy wheels in Pulse Spoke design, as well as John Cooper Works light-alloy wheels in Circuit Spoke black design.
Standard LED headlights
The 2022 Mini-3 door, the Mini 5-door and the Mini Convertible features a new blacked out characteristic round LED headlights. A circumferential light band takes on the function of the daytime running lights and the turn indicators. The front fog lamps has been now replaced by a new bad weather light. The Mini Cooper and Convertible also gets an optional adaptive LED headlights. In which, the high beam is automatically controlled according to the respective traffic situation at speeds of more than 70Â km/h.
New sports leather steering wheel
The 2022 Mini 3-door, Mini 5-door and Mini Convertible gets a new sports leather steering wheel with multifunction buttons as standard across all model variants. The John Cooper Works Trim, Mini Yours Trim and Mini Electric Trim equipment packages feature a particularly high-grade version of the sports leather steering wheel. It features a nappa leather surface and larger thumb rests. For the first time, Mini 3-door, Mini 5-door and Mini Convertible gets an optional heated steering wheel.
Frequency-selective dampers
The new Mini Cooper and Convertible will feature a new version of the Adaptive Suspension, available for the first time on Mini models. It achieves a noticeably optimised balance between sportiness and ride comfort through the use of continuous frequency-selective damping. The damper force is adjusted within 50 to 100 milliseconds. Depending on the driving situation and road conditions, the damping forces can be reduced by up to 50 percent. The damper technology is available for all model variants except the Mini One First, the Mini One and the Mini Cooper SE.
Rear lights with Union Jack design
The characteristic rear lights in Union Jack design are now also part of the standard equipment range for the Mini 3-door, the Mini 5-door and the Mini Convertible. The British flag-inspired graphic of the rear lights is particularly emphasised by a darker version of the pattern. All functions of the rear lights are in LED technology with the exception of the reversing light.
