With rising EV adoption in the country from the public and corporate sectors, BYD India has started testing the e6 electric MPV in India. The new BYD e6 electric MPV was spotted testing near Santa Cruz, Mumbai. The new electric vehicle is expected to hit market by the end of 2021.
BYD India, a subsidiary of the Warren Buffett-backed EV maker BYD had earlier announced its plan to launch its first electric passenger vehicle in India. The new EV will be a Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) for the B2B (Business to Business) segment. One of our follower Viraj shared these images with us. The test mule car seems to be the second generation BYD e6 electric MPV, which was launched in Singapore earlier this year.
The electric MPV was earlier spotted only in Crystal White colour. In the international market, BYD e6 electric MPV is available in Doctor Black, Crystal White, Blue with Black and Green with White colours.
At the front, BYD e6 MPV sports a body-coloured bumper with a perforated front grille, and the the slimmer headlamps are connected by a sleek chrome line. With tapering roof line and a minivan like rear section, the e6 MPV looks similar to the previous generation Mercedes-Benz B Class. The BYD e6 electric MPV rides on 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels.
The interior of the new BYD e6 electric MPV is dominated by black leather upholstery. The centre section of the dashboard and door panels are painted in Gloss Black. The e6 electric MPV sports a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, semi-digital instrument cluster, multi-functional leather wrapped steering wheel. The 10.1-inch screen could be manually rotated by 90-degrees to switch between portrait and landscape modes.
The front-wheel drive electric MPV is expected to be powered by a 95 PS, 180 Nm electric motor with BYD’s 71.7 kWh Blade battery capacity. With a claimed electric drive range of 520 km, the BYD e6 MPV has a top speed of 130 km/h. The e6 MPV can be fully charged in 1.5 hours with a 60 kW DC onboard charger or in 2 hours using a 40 kW AC onboard charger.
The 5-seater electric MPV will be offered with features like auto AC, 580-litres of boot space, reverse parking camera with adaptive guidelines, rear parking sensors, an electric tailgate, 4 airbags, ABS with EBD, six-way adjustable driver seat, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), auto-fold mirrors, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, hill start assist, cruise control, front & rear disc brakes, drive mode and electronic parking brake.
The BYD e6 MPV might be brought to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) or fully import model. We expect the e6 electric MPV to be priced between Rs 20-36 lakh (ex-showroom, Chennai).
