Mahindra and Mahindra’s compact SUV, the XUV300 has been awarded the highest 5-Star Safety Rating by Global NCAP, the umbrella body of consumer car safety testing bodies. With this global recognition, the XUV300 becomes the first Indian vehicle to score the highest points among all 5-Star rated cars tested so far by Global NCAP’s #SaferCarsForIndia. The Mahindra XUV300 also becomes the first Indian vehicle to achieve a 4-star child safety rating in Global NCAP.
With the Mahindra XUV300, Mahindra achieves the highest combined result in Global NCAP’s #SaferCarsForIndia crash tests to date with the highest score both in adult and child protection categories. The XUV300 has also shown the lowest level of intrusion and best side impact crash worthiness performance of any model tested so far. The official Global NCAP test for the Mahindra XUV300 was conducted in Germany recently.
The Mahindra XUV300 offers 2 frontal airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) as standard, and it offers ESC and side curtain airbags as optional. The electronic stability program comes with Dynamic Steering Torque, Hydraulic Brake Assist, Roll-over Mitigation and Traction Control, together with Hill Start Assist. The Mahindra XUV300’s structure and its footwell area were rated as stable. Head and neck protection for adult occupants was good. Chest protection for passenger was good and driver chest protection was adequate. Femur and knees showed good protection as well. The child occupant protection showed good protection for the 18 month old dummy with the CRS installed rearward facing and using the standard ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg. The 3 year old CRS was installed forward facing using the ISOFIX anchorages as well as a top tether and offered fair protection to the dummy. The Mahindra XUV300 offers the possibility of disconnecting the passenger airbag in case of the need to use a rearward facing CRS in the passenger seat. The XUV300 scored only four star rating for the child occupant protection due to the lack of three point seat belts in all seating positions, as well as the poor ISOFIX marking.
