As per recent report, Volkswagen is considering to launch the new Polo GTI in India via CBU route in limited volumes. Volkswagen has no plans to locally manufacture the 6th gen Polo in India and the German automaker is all set to launch the Polo special farewell edition in India.
Volkswagen had earlier launched the 5th gen Polo GTI 3-door in India. The fifth-gen Polo GTI was priced at Rs 25.99 lakh. It was powered by a 1.8-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine, which churned out 189 hp and 250 Nm of torque. It had top speed of 233 km/h and a 0-100 km/h time of a claimed 7.2 sec.
The 6th generation Volkswagen Polo GTI is expected to be launched in a more practical 5-door avatar. It’s based on the latest MQB A0 architecture and is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI petrol mill that produces 204 HP and 320 Nm of torque. Mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox, it does 0-100 km/hr in 6.5 seconds. The VW Polo GTI fetched good sales after the price was slashed by a full Rs 6 lakh, following a revision in tax rates with the implementation of GST in mid-2017.
“The sub-4m rule is basically killing the segment. It’s virtually impossible to make a business case for global products, and bring them under the sub-4m class. So, it’s definitely a challenge for all manufacturers who don’t have India-specific products,”

In terms of features, the new Polo GTI is equipped with LED matrix headlights, 9.2-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro, Online Connectivity Unit (OCU) with eSIM, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leather sports steering wheel, 300 W (6-speaker) Beats sound system and more.
The new Volkswagen Polo GTI gets 15mm lower sports chassis, upgraded brakes and comes with semi-automated driving function IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist as an option along with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Assist.
In the global market, new Volkswagen Polo GTI is offered in 5 colours – Deep Black Pearl Effect, Smoke Grey Metallic, Kings Red Metallic, Pure White Uni and Reef Blue Metallic.
